HISTORICAL

Important to Japanese artist Mitsuo Kimura, is the connection between the natural and spiritual world. His paintings include depictions of flora, fauna, and the spiritual. Navigating our ever changing world, Kimura is rooted in his study of the human experience through both his Buddhist and artistic practice. Numinous Tree presents a series of paintings and sculptures that detail his growing understanding of interpersonal relationships and interior dialogue. The process of "putting down roots" in Toronto, having spent many of his years in Japan, allows a unique lens to be cast on the complexities of cultural difference, expanding communities, and a willingness to engage in a new and evolving set of resources and influences.

Mitsuo Kimura is known for his intricate and labour intensive works on paper which blend Western art making practices with Japanese pop culture and graphic sensibilities. Numinous Tree will also include a series of Ceramic sculptures, each uniquely crafted and glazed by the artist.
